The motivation
for this freshman design project is to learn more about pedal boxes and more
specifically, its mechanics. The objective of the project is design a pedal box
that will function properly and with the lowest weight possible. For the finishing product, some goals that
will be met include making sure the pedal box is durable, adjustable, and
working properly by the deadline. There are also extensive rules from the sanctioning
body that organizes the competition, the Society of Automotive Engineers, that
must be followed without deviation. For
the major task, the group will design an adjustable pedal box that fits for
people of all different sizes, have it be lightweight, and at the same time be
durable so it lasts over time. Final deliverables consist of drawings, models,
analysis, and the actual pedal box.
